Lorig Hawkins
Lorig Hawkins has been farming in the central Texas area for the past ten years. She first worked as an intern at Urban Roots until gaining a position at Tecolote Farm, where she served as manager for three years. She has also worked as the farm associate at Boggy Creek Farm and was the initial Farm Manager for Farmshare Austin.
Between 2015-2019, Lorig attended the Masters program in Agricultural Education at Texas State University. She graduated in 2019 with a Master’s degree in Agricultural Education and Sustainable Ag.
Lorig is the owner and operator of Middle Ground Farm, a 30 acre organic vegetable farm. She was one of the co-founders of the Central Texas Young Farmer Coalition, which started as a small grassroots organization in the fall of 2013. In 2017, Lorig was awarded a Texas Department of Agriculture Young Farmer grant, which she used to help fund the launch of Middle Ground Farm in 2017.
In 2020, they were accepted as a Food Safety Fellow with the National Young Farmers Coalition which will continue through the end of 2023. As a part of this fellowship, Lorig has attended the Produce Safety Alliance’s Advanced Food Safety Training and co-taught Produce Safety Grower Trainings.
