Program Overview
The Bachelor of Applied Technology in Manufacturing Engineering Technology is a stackable associate-to-bachelor’s degree program developed to enhance career advancement and bachelor’s degree attainment. The BAT focuses on professional practice, scholarly inquiry, organizational leadership, management principles, engineering principles, and the technical skills to identify and resolve production problems in the manufacturing of products.

The Bachelor of Applied Technology degree program is for students who have completed applicable Associate of Applied Science degrees in or related to these concentration areas:

The Bachelor of Applied Technology degree program also includes students who have completed an Associate of Science in Engineering degree. By design, the AS in Engineering is a transfer degree program that has above and beyond the academic core coursework needed but requires more technical coursework to satisfy the BAT curriculum. Therefore, this pathway compliments the BAT curriculum with a Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Technology.
BAT Degree & Courses
The BAT in Manufacturing Engineering Technology degree consists of 45 credits of technical courses, 42-44 credits of academic core curriculum, and 31 credits of upper-level coursework. Up to half of these credits should come from the Associate of Applied Science degree.
The BAT Associate of Science in Engineering Pathway consists of 59-60 semester credit hours (SCH) of prerequisite core courses, 30 SCH of technical course work beyond the associate degree; and 31 SCH of upper-level BAT coursework. Students on this pathway will also be awarded a Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Technology.
BAT courses are only offered one time per year as part of a structured curriculum. All courses in any semester must be completed with a grade of C or better. Enrollment in BAT (APMT and SCLM) courses is restricted to students accepted in the BAT program.

Admission Criteria
- Have an Associate of Applied Science Degree in one of the related concentration areas: Advanced Manufacturing, Architecture & Engineering Computer-Aided Design, Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology, Building Construction Technology, Computer Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Geographic Information Systems, Heating Air Conditioning, & Refrigeration Technology, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Welding Technology, or an A.S. in Engineering
- Successful completion of college algebra or higher-level math course
- Have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4-point scale for ALL academic coursework
- Complete a BAT Application
- Letter of Recommendation-One letter of recommendation from current/former faculty or employer.

Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the BAT program, and enrollment is limited. Our ranking is based on overall GPA, relative experiences, and associate-level program of study.

The BAT Program offices and manufacturing classrooms are located at the Highland Campus (HLC), Building 2000, Suite 2.1540.
Application
The Fall 2025 Application will open in January 2025. Application deadline is May 18, 2025.
BAT Program Application Process
Applicants must be enrolled in Austin Community College prior to applying for the BAT program. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the BAT program, and enrollment is limited.
You must verify that each step is completed before your program application is accepted.

- The completed and signed three-page BAT Application. (Coming Soon)
- A Letter of Recommendation from current/former faculty or employer.
- A Letter of Intent explaining why you should be admitted into this program (i.e. industry related experiences, goals, applicable volunteer work). Your letter should be 500-800 words, double-spaced, and use APA style.
- An ACC Unofficial Transcript if you are an ACC graduate; AND/OR a Student Copy of Official Transcripts and course descriptions if you are a graduate of a different college.
- Your Resume.

I graduated with a degree from an international college/university. Can this degree be considered for the BAT degree program requirements?
First, you must have your transcript translated in the US and then submitted to ACC for further evaluation. Upon review of the ACC Transcript Evaluation Review Department, your coursework will them be considered for BAT requirements. This does not guarantee that your international degree will be accepted, but it will be reviewed.

If I graduated from ACC several years ago with my AAS in one of the program areas, do I have to re-apply to ACC to be admitted into the BAT program?
No, you do not need to reapply. Log into MyACC with your ACCeID to check and remove any holds. Visit austincc.edu/acceid to find your login or reset your password. Update your records (i.e. recertify residency, update address, phone number, etc.) in order to be eligible to register for classes.

I graduated from ACC with an AAS in one of the preferred program areas. But I did not take one or two of the prerequisite academic core courses. Can I still apply for and be admitted to the BAT Program?
You must complete the prerequisite coursework before being accepted into the program. You can apply to the program If you are within one semester of completing the prerequisites; however, you must complete all prerequisites by the end that previous semester to begin the program in the semester you are applying for.

I have an Associate of Science in Engineering. Can I apply for the program?
Yes, you can apply to this bachelor’s degree program if you have an Associate of Science in Engineering. The AS in Engineering track is unique for these students and affords the students an opportunity to obtain a Level Two Certificate in Engineering Technology as well. I graduated from ACC with an AAS but NOT in one of the preferred program areas. Can I apply for the BAT Program?
You can apply for the BAT Program; however, first priority will be given to graduates of Austin Community College’s Associate of Applied Science degree programs (as listed above) and careful review of your technical coursework will be needed to evaluate your application.

Can I complete the BAT as a part-time student and what does that look like?
Yes. As a part-time student, you will be required to take the BAT Upper Division Courses in sequence during the same cohort semesters as the full-time students. The difference will be in the order in which you take the BAT Academic Core Courses. These can be taken with more flexibility around a part-time schedule.

I completed my AAS from an outside institution. Can I apply for the BAT program?
Yes, applied science graduates from other colleges can apply for ACC’s BAT Program if they meet the eligibility criteria. A copy of your transcript must be included in the BAT application packet and an OFFICIAL COPY of the transcript(s) must be submitted to ACC for evaluation. (Submitting Transcripts to ACC)

Can I apply for the BAT Program if I live outside the Austin area?
You can apply for the BAT Program; however, priority consideration is given to graduates of ACC’s eligible applied science programs and residents of the college’s taxing district and service area.
