For four decades, Mike Ritter hasn’t just been an adjunct instructor at Austin Community College (ACC); he’s been a foundational force, shaping the very landscape of professional surveying in Texas. This year, his extraordinary dedication received a well-deserved spotlight.
The Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS), the authoritative voice for land surveyors across the state, recently honored Mike with an award recognizing his spectacular, decades-long commitment to education. This accolade highlights his exceptional achievement: providing 40 years of stellar instruction to the next generation of surveyors.
More Than a Teacher, He’s a Legacy
Teaching isn’t just a job for Mike; it’s a legacy. Since he started at ACC, he has helped thousands of students master the complex, critical skills needed for land surveying—a profession that demands precision, legal knowledge, and a deep understanding of geography and history. The lines on our maps, the boundaries of our properties, and the very foundation of our infrastructure owe a debt to the meticulous work of the professionals he’s trained.
His influence extends far beyond the classroom walls. Graduating students, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in the field, carry his high standards of ethics and technical excellence into every project they tackle.
A Landmark Achievement
This award from the TSPS isn’t just a trophy; it’s a testament to the profound impact one dedicated instructor can have on an entire industry. It formally recognizes the consistent, high-quality education Mike has championed for nearly half a century.
ACC and the entire Texas surveying community celebrate Mike Ritter. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of the knowledge and passion he has shared with so many.

I asked Mike what he thought of his award. He humbly said “I would like for us all to know that the program has a good recognition state-wide by TSPS. I’ve wanted that for many years. We all do a great job with students here, and I want the students who come through our program to be proud of it.”
