ACC Geospatial Engineering (GE) Instructor and former student Anna Rios was named the TSPS Young Surveyor of the Year at the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) Convention in October 2019!

Anna started as a student in 2002 in the ACC Geomatics/Land Surveying (now called Geospatial Engineering) program and then taught her first course for ACC (Surveying Legal Principles I) as an adjunct instructor in the Spring 2019 semester.

Since graduating from ACC, Anna worked as a Surveyor-in-Training to gain the knowledge and experience that she later used to earn her Registered Professional Land Surveyor license in 2018. She is now an RPLS/Project Manager at Landesign Services, Inc., one of the top Surveying firms in Central Texas. She is active in all levels of TSPS, including Co-chair of the Public Relations Committee, State Director, president of the TSPS Capital Area Chapter and Past Texas Representative for the NSPS Young Surveyors Network, which she held the position from November of 2015 through January of 2019.

Anna spearheaded the first Women Surveyors Summit hosted by TSPS in August 2019. Click here to read the article published in The Texas Surveyor Magazine. She has been highlighted in the “Women in Surveying” edition, also published in The Texas Surveyor magazine in March 2019, as well as mentioned in the Minnesota Surveyor Magazine Fall 2019 “Women Surveyors Summit”, xyHt online articles “Women Surveyors Summit 2019” and “Positively Surveying”, and in a Q&A blog by Courthouse Direct

Recently, Anna founded the Future Surveyors Foundation, a nonprofit organization to create opportunity, inspiration and support to develop a skilled and inclusive workforce for Surveying and Geospatial Engineering. The Future Surveyors Foundation will work with state organizations and school programs to host events, such as the Women Surveyors Summit, to promote and increase visibility for the Surveying and Geospatial profession.

The GE Department is honored and grateful to have a recognized leader teach ACC students about the surveying profession.
