Your Impact at SAM

  • The instrument operator uses a variety of surveying instruments to support a survey crew in their daily operations
  • Assists in the completion of field surveys under the supervision of a Crew Chief
  • Responsible for the operation, checking and basic field adjustments of survey equipment. E.g. tripods, tribrachs, levels, total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems
  • Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations
  • Read and interpret various types of maps and plans
  • Complete neat and orderly field notes for survey operations with supervision from Crew Chief
  • Keeps Crew Chief informed of problems and progress
  • Load and unload trucks with equipment and supplies
  • Clean and maintain survey equipment, tools and vehicle
  • Follow company safety procedures for survey operations

What You Bring to SAM

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid, current driver’s license
  • One year industry experience
  • Knowledgeable in the principles and performance of basic types of surveys, survey computations, and field operations
  • Ability to work continually outside in all types of weather conditions and terrain
  • Ability to work out of town, in remote locations, for extended periods of time

Crew Chief/ Survey Party Chief

Your Impact at SAM

  • The crew chief oversees the daily field operations of a survey crew
  • Determine most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for field surveys ranging from primary control through construction layout and as-built surveys, as needed
  • Proficient with documentation of work performed and sketches
  • Communicate daily with Project Surveyor and technician regarding project schedule and work progress
  • Interact professionally with client representative and land owners
  • Read and interpret construction drawings/specifications and understand all aspects of the project specifications and tolerances
  • Prepare daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork
  • Maintain vehicle and field equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring to SAM

  • 5+ years of industry experience, prior crew chief experience is preferred
  • Competent operating total stations, GNSS receivers, data collectors, and tablet PCs
  • Experience with Trimble equipment is preferred
  • Strong computer and technical skills
  • Strong communication skills (listening, writing and verbal)
  • Proven work history, strong work ethic, and team-player attitude
  • Ability to travel for extended periods
  • Ability to work in all-weather climates
  • Ability to walk long distances through a variety of terrains and carry up to 80lbs
  • Valid driver’s license, clean background check and drug screening
  • Experience in Oil & Gas Projects, processes, workflows and industry
  • Knowledge of Pipeline Locating, Scanning, Level Loops, Traversing, Level Loops
