Do you like to solve problems or puzzles and work with geospatial technologies? Are you interested in an opportunity to do both while growing your knowledge and experience in surveying and GIS? LCRA is seeking a Survey/GIS Technician to join its diverse team of professionals in the Surveying, GIS, and Technical Services (SGTS) department. In this position, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the easement records and mapping of one of Texas’ largest electric transmission providers. You will work closely with and directed by teammates within SGTS as an individual contributor, while engaging with staff from across LCRA, to improve the mapping of easements within our internal GIS system and contributing to LCRA’s Vision to “… be the public utility that sets the standard for excellence.”

You will be trusted to:

• Review existing transmission line easement information and mapping

• Investigate, research, and obtain needed property records documentation (onsite, offsite, or online)

• Rectify legacy GIS easement mapping and information by re-plotting and/or georeferencing polygons to updated aerial imagery or survey boundary/monuments

• Plot property descriptions and create AutoCAD drawings of transmission line easement configurations

• Identify easements that need additional geographic location verification for inclusion in future work

• Identify, log, and report potential areas of concern

• Update GIS system (mapping, attributes, and metadata)

• Populate databases with information from record easement documents

• Submit new easement documents for recording on-site


You qualify with:

– Two or more years of experience in surveying. 

– A degree(s) in surveying or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.  

– Driver’s license


You are a great fit with:

• Proficient reading and interpreting real estate property transaction records documentation ( easements, deeds, etc.) and boundary documents

• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and/or Civil3D

• Proficient in the use of ArcGIS

• Good organizational skills

• Ability to effectively communicate via in-person, video conferencing (virtual), email, and text
