Technicians The candidate must be able to provide technical assistance and support to users including data maintenance procedures, GIS software support, and map product generation.<br \/>\n\u25cf Employees at this level receive. Field a variety of assignments which require the application of the broad range of GIS application. principles, methods and techniques.<br \/>\n\u25cf All work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director<br \/>\n\u25cf The nature of the work performed requires the technician to establish and Maintain an effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other Bastrop County employees, contract engineers, vendors and the public.<br \/>\n\u25cf The principal duties of this position are performed in a general office environment with frequent trips to various sites throughout town.<br \/>\n\u25cf Incorporate diverse additional data into the project as it becomes relevant to the project Essential Tasks &amp; Responsibilities:<br \/>\n\u25cf Develops and maintains comprehensive GIS data, including developing and editing GIS datasets, collecting and verifying field data, importing GIS data from various sources, troubleshooting data errors and interpreting GIS data to resolve questions about broadband infrastructure.<br \/>\n\u25cf Develops and maintains data layers to provide information on geographic features.<br \/>\n\u25cf Researches and compiles information from a variety of sources to develop standardized\u00a0data for incorporation into the GIS.<br \/>\n\u25cf Analyzes and interprets mapped ing data to verify accuracy and correct errors.<br \/>\n\u25cf Collects technical and field data through Global Position System (GPS) and \/or visual inspection.<br \/>\n\u25cf Provides GIS technical support to users.<br \/>\n\u25cf Operates and maintains GIS equipment.<br \/>\n\u25cf Maintains town maps and related files, including making custom prints and displays for Bastrop County departments and the general public.<br \/>\n\u25cf Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.<br \/>\n\u25cf Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Responsibilities &amp; Tasks:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u25cf Keeps Executive Director and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.<br \/>\n\u25cf Responds to citizens&#8217; questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.<br \/>\n\u25cf Communicates and coordinates regularly with other departments to maximize the<br \/>\n\u25cf effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.<br \/>\n\u25cf Is punctual and timely in meeting requirements of performance, including attendance<br \/>\n\u25cf standards and work deadlines.<br \/>\n\u25cf Communicates information and states concerns in a clear and professional manner.<br \/>\n\u25cf Respects the opinion of others and demonstrates a reasonable relationship with<br \/>\nemployees, supervisors and others.<br \/>\n\u25cf Accepts and performs in a timely and effective manner changes in work assignments\u00a0and\/or how work is performed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Competencies &amp; Technical Skills:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u25cf Thorough Functional knowledge of principles and techniques of GIS including knowledge of GIS software, data capture, map production, and maintenance techniques in the ArcGIS environment.<br \/>\n\u25cf Thorough Functional knowledge of engineering and construction design principles and practices.<br \/>\n\u25cf Thorough Functional knowledge of surveying principles.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to operate GIS software and hardware.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and blueprints.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other Bastrop County employees, and the general public.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both\u00a0technical and non-technical language.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to understand and follow oral and\/or written policies, procedures, and\u00a0instructions.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and\u00a0recommendations.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and\/or oral instructions.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.<br \/>\n\u25cf Ability and willingness to quickly learn and utilize new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and\/or technology. Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.<br \/>\n\u25cf Expected hours &amp; Travel: Salaried position that is expected to work as many hours as required (workload driving hours spent i.e. performance driven). Minimal travel however, occasional travel to conferences.<br \/>\n<strong>Required Education &amp; Experience:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u25cf Associate&#8217;s Degree (two year college or technical school) or enrolled in a program Required (Bachelors preferred),<br \/>\n\u25cf Field of Study: Computerized Drafting\/Mapping and Design, GIS, Geography or Related field<br \/>\n\u25cf Proven experience in related GIS activities or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work<br \/>\n\u25cf Learn and utilize new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and\/or technology.
