Job Description Summary

Performs routine (journey-level) geographic information system work. Work involves assisting in daily activities within the Research and Distribution Center (RDC) group to organize, maintain, and expand Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS) archives and access to the archives. Helps to obtain, catalog, and distribute maps, aerial photographs, digital imagery, and reports to the public. Provides assistance for requests to the geospatial data and data support along with maintaining and managing TNRIS data files (with a concentration on historical aerial photography and historical map collections). Assists the Geographic Information System (GIS) community with digital access to TNRIS GIS data, including lidar, orthoimagery, land parcels, and address points. Creates custom maps and graphics using geospatial data and facilitates the use of GIS applications. Assists with guidance and training of TNRIS interns during their tenure. Responsible for walk-in customers, RDC phone calls, and customer sales within TNRIS. Supports TNRIS activities for emergency management purposes as needed. Understands and provides support for each of the information programs within TNRIS and Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) divisions as required. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Manager of the Strategic Mapping Program (StratMap) Department.
