Job Description:
Serves as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) subject matter expert for the Division of Regional and Local Health Operations (RLHO). Works under minimal supervision for the Analytics Group Manager with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs highly advanced (senior-level) research and analysis work. Plans, develops, coordinates, and oversees GIS research and the use of GIS analytic tools focused on public health region (PHR) and local public health program spatial analysis and public health emergency preparedness (PHEP) projects. Scope of work includes the development of long-range objectives for the integration of GIS into regionally based public health and PHEP programs. Oversees RLHO GIS activities such as collecting, managing, analyzing, and displaying spatial data to support public health programs and PHEP activities. Coordinates strategic initiatives to evaluate standards and procedures for recording, exchanging, and accessing geospatial data throughout DSHS. Provides training and technical assistance to state, regional and local health department staff on GIS-related theory and practice using quantitative, qualitative, and spatial research methods. Prepares and delivers advanced GIS presentations. Assumes a response role during disasters and public health emergencies such as maintaining agency continuity of operations, serving as a member of the agency’s Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response team, serving in the State Medical Operations Center, or being deployed to an affected region to provide technical support.
