The City of Pflugerville is seeking a GIS Forestry Intern! The person we seek will believe in and exhibit the City’s P.F.I.R.S.T. core values: Positive, Forward-thinking, Integrity, Resilience, Service, and Teamwork.

 As a GIS Forestry Intern for the City, you will be censusing the City of Pflugerville Tree Canopy. This intern will spend most of their time in the field identifying, measuring, and mapping woody stumps, plants, and trees.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Participate with a summer census crew to identify, measure, and map woody plants within the City of Pflugerville Tree Canopy.
  • Help to improve field protocols, efficiency, and safety by performing quality and safety inspections, general maintenance, and cleaning, and updating field manuals and protocols.
  • Curate data collected by the census crew and provide a weekly progress report.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, workflow planning, data entry, materials, and equipment supplies preparation.
  • Assist with other data collection, including surveys of herbaceous plants, soil, and microbes.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Formal Education: Currently enrolled in a degree plan with a College or University.
Preferred Qualifications: Interest in Environmental Studies, Geographic Information Systems, Parks and Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a related field of study.
