The Austin Fire Department’s Research & Data Analytics team currently has two postings for summer GIS interns. Both internships will run from June 1st through August 10th, 2023. The schedule is flexible, but we are looking for someone who can be on-site in Austin 2+ times per week. All majors are welcome to apply and the internship can be used for college course credit.

This internship is intended to be the more advanced of the two, for students who have completed junior-level GIS or geography coursework. Students will complete analytical and/or cartographic tasks with opportunity for creativity and critical thinking. We are looking for someone who can devote a minimum of 15-20 hours per week.

Posting closes 4/21.

This internship is designed to be more introductory, for students who have completed freshman-level GIS or geography coursework. Students will learn basic GIS skills and gain professional experience. We are looking for someone who can devote a minimum of 10-15 hours per week.

Posting closes 4/27.

The Fire Department is an exciting place to intern, with opportunities to visit fire stations, ride out with a fire engine company, and learn about real-world GIS applications. Our team develops a wide variety of paper/PDF maps, ArcGIS Online maps, and interactive web apps.

We also have one full-time position open on our team:
