General Description
The Railroad Commission of Texas (Commission) is the state agency with primary regulatory jurisdiction over the oil and natural gas industry, pipeline transporters, natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline industry, natural gas utilities, the LP-gas industry, and coal and uranium surface mining operations. The Information Technology Service in the Geographic Information System (GIS) Division is seeking a senior GIS Specialist to perform routine to moderately complex compliance, technical, GIS Mapping and professional administrative support in the Commission’s GIS Mapping team.
Job duties involve GIS mapping of Oil, Gas, Pipeline and Surface mining locations; composing correspondence; ensuring compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes; updating a permit database; and prioritizing assignments. Performs highly complex (senior-level) geographic information system work. Work involves coordinating the input and manipulation of geographic information to create, maintain, display, update, and produce accurate maps and other representation of data.
Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Chief Data Officer, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
