Summary
Under the direction of the GIS Manager, performs mapping and data analysis tasks related to GIS/CAD/aerial data to include producing graphic and tabular data to support planning activities, maintaining the City street addressing system, creating and maintaining GIS databases. The work at this level involves the creation of increasingly complex programs for the development of mapping products and a working understanding of cadastral and land management principals. Comprehend and analyze database systems including department equipment and software.

Essential Duties & Required Qualifications

  • Maintain enterprise Geographic Information System, create, input, manipulate, and analyze spatial data; develop procedures for field data collection and maintenance, ensures GIS is accurate and up to date.
  • Create, maintain and update data and maps consisting of geographically referenced data for entry into GIS including subdivisions, boundaries, parcels, utilities, addressing and other layers.
  • Create electronic and paper exhibits, maps (including maps for sale to public), spreadsheets and graphs using GIS/CAD software and related equipment.
  • Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
  • Enter new map data by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
  • Develop and maintain online GIS for use by city departments, citizens, and developers.
  • Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.
  • Operate and maintain GIS system hardware, software, plotter, color printer and scanner.
  • Communicate effectively when responding to concerns and inquiries from engineers, architects, contractors, developers, land owners, citizens and city staff.
  • Work closely with other departments, construction engineers, developers and contractors regarding engineering and public works activities and projects.
  • Interact with various regulatory and governmental agencies, and consult various data sources concerning GIS standards, regulatory compliance and requirements for development activities.
  • Read recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding GIS.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
