We’re looking for a GIS intern to join us this summer in the Buda / South Austin area, with the potential to stay on long-term as the role grows.
Our office is located in Manchaca. Hours are flexible and expected to range between 10–30 hours per week depending on capability, availability, and workload. Pay is competitive.

Barrelhouse Labs is a young technology startup serving the oil & gas industry. We build software and infrastructure tools that help energy companies manage and analyze spatial assets, documents, and operational data more efficiently using modern GIS technology and AI.
What We Need:
We’re looking for someone adaptable, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of a wide range of tasks. As a small company, responsibilities can vary day-to-day — from GIS editing and QA/QC work to organizing project information, drafting communications, exporting client deliverables, or just generally helping to keep operations running smoothly.
We care much more about attitude, consistency, and motivation than prior experience.
The right person:
  • Communicates well and responds reliably
  • Isn’t afraid to ask questions
  • Is comfortable working in a dynamic environment
What They’ll Do:
Initially, most of the work will involve quality control and small edits on vector datasets. GIS editing is done within a pre-built QGIS environment, so students can become productive quickly.
Beyond that, interns may assist with:
  • Project coordination and organization
  • Data cleanup and management
  • Spreadsheet and document workflows
  • General operational support
What They’ll Be Exposed To:
  • Real-world oil & gas land data, operations, and workflows
  • Applied GIS in an active production PostGIS environment
  • Data integration, cleanup, formatting
  • Introductory software development concepts
  • Introductory database administration concepts
  • Practical use of AI tools in business operations
How To Apply:
Students can email internship@barrelhouse.ai with:
  • Their resume
  • General summer availability
  • A short introduction about themselves
  • Answers to these questions:
    • What’s your story with GIS? How did you end up here?
    • What part of GIS are you most interested in exploring further?
    • AI is changing how we work across every industry. How are you using it today?
We are a small team with a lot of responsibility and a real opportunity to learn quickly. For the right person, it can be an excellent way to gain meaningful experience early in their career.
